![]() “So all that’s stuff is happening with the Sitwell company, and then we end up playing them in a softball game!” I think it’s amazing that George Michael spends his free time telling his college friends the story of various Arrested Development episodes.“You don’t have to do anything, you threw me a-meeting.”.“AH FUCK! We should put these in cribs!”.“Perfect for those who like the sound of a clock, but don’t know numbers.”.Finally seeing the origins of George Michael’s mustache was great, as was the return of the Cornballer as the source of George Michael’s amazing time skills. ![]() P-Hound got a little more material during this episode, and I especially enjoyed his suing over the three dollar app purchase in the end credits. But still, take the advice of the episode’s title-things might have taken a break in the comedic department now, but it will get better with the final two episodes. That was a huge problem with this season overall, and “It Gets Better” continues the trend. It was funny a good portion of the time, but not laugh out loud in ways that Arrested Development most often is. It does a great job feeling us in on the shenanigans of George Michael, but it also does a pretty lame job with jokes and running gags. In fact, I think it’s the only not excellent episode of the last five. That said, I still feel “It Gets Better” is one of the few lulls in the later half of this season. We’ve seen Michael betrayed by his family before in romance, but seeing it from George Michael just makes the plot line all the better. Same goes for the Michael/George Michael/Rebel love triangle. And George Michael’s continuing and using it certainly speaks to his Bluth heritage-I could easily see Gob or even Michael get into a situation like this, but having George Michael do it just makes it all the more funnier. I smelled bias on George Michael’s privacy software from the moment it was first mentioned, but the reveal that it’s actually just a wood block app was still played perfectly. It really started with the whole “Fakeblock” thing, which is one of the most wonderful reversals of the whole season. There’s a line in “It Gets Better” that especially struck me-during one of George Michael’s various moral dilemmas here, the narrator off offhandedly says that the character was a “Bluth taking his first steps into deceit.” That tonally describes George Michael here in essence-well he’s still the lovable meek fellow who loves wood blocks and wants to make out with his cousins, it’s pretty obvious that the time he spent with his dysfunctional family impacted him in ways he didn’t imagine. I discussed earlier this season that I love what they did with Michael, and I equally love what they did with George Michael here. The George Michael centric “It Gets Better” follows that trend for, despite all of its narrative shenanigans and dearth of really great jokes, I think George Michael’s episode was still a winner in other departments. The episodes I reviewed where probably some of the weakest of the batch, but even they weren’t straight up bad. Let me just clarify by saying that’s not the case-I’ll probably have a full season review go up before all is said and done, but let me just say I mostly loved Season 4. And for that reason, I feel like my overall reactions to this season seem negative. That said, I felt a lot of my episodes, from the very shaky “Flight of the Phoenix” to the mostly lackluster “Mother B.” weren’t NEARLY as good as some of the best that Season 4 had to offer. Ultimately, I think I’m pleased with the episodes I got to review for Season 4 of Arrested Development, mostly because they were a lot of fun to talk about and easy to really delve into. ![]() Bananagrabber Mrs.Sometimes I feel like I might have drawn the short straw with this season of Arrested Development.
